Product Description
Train on the Edge
The touchscreen Edge 510 is designed for the competitive cyclist who seeks the most accurate and comprehensive ride data. It offers connected features¹ through your smartphone, including live tracking, weather and social media sharing. Whether you're training, racing or touring, Edge 510 tracks the details of your ride, and you can view it later on a map at Garmin Connect™. Compatible with GPS and GLONASS satellites for faster satellite acquisition and improved signal lock, the 510 is suited for the most challenging conditions, such as canyons.
Track Every Detail
The 510 records your distance, speed metrics, ascent/descent, grade and more. Take your training farther with ANT+™-compatible sensors that measure your heart rate², speed/cadence² and power³. The activity profiles feature allows you to customize data fields and device settings based on cycling activity, such as training or racing. Switch profiles with a simple swipe of the touchscreen and your device will be set up to show the data you need for that ride. When you complete a ride, the 510 displays any new personal records you achieved, such as farthest distance, most ascent gained and more.
Get Connected
Edge 510 offers a suite of connected features when paired with your smartphone (Apple® or Android™) and the Garmin Connect™ Mobile app. This allows you to gain comprehensive, accurate ride data from a dedicated device, while saving your phone battery. Edge tracks the data and sends it to your phone using a Bluetooth® connection. Stay connected and share all the details of your ride with friends, family and your social media contacts. You can post an update immediately after your ride or race with details from your completed activity. You'll create your posts via your smartphone, and the ride data's already there, thanks to the interface with Garmin Connect Mobile.
Live Tracking
The live tracking feature allows your friends and family to follow your races and training activities in real time. Invite followers using email or social media, so they can view your live data on a Garmin Connect tracking page. Once they get your email invite, they can click to follow and see your stats and location on the map.
Weather
Get real-time weather conditions, forecasts and alerts (in areas with coverage) directly on the Edge 510 when it's paired with your smartphone and Garmin Connect Mobile. This feature is useful for extended rides, and it lets you keep your smartphone safe and dry, while the weather data you need is at your fingertips.
Wireless Data Transfers
Now you can instantly store, share and analyze every detail of your ride. The Garmin Connect Mobile app allows for wireless uploads of completed activities from your device as soon as you finish recording an activity. You choose whether activities are automatically or manually uploaded. Once your ride has posted to Garmin Connect, your own "connections" can view them. You can also search your courses and workouts4 stored at Garmin Connect, download to your smartphone, then send directly to your Edge 510 — wirelessly. Use the courses and Virtual Partner® features on your Edge to race your previous activities in real time.
Purpose-Built Bike Computer
Edge 510 is rugged, waterproof and has up to a 20 hour battery life. The touchscreen is easy to operate, even with a gloved finger and when wet. Mounting options include a new out-front mount² for heads-up positioning and a standard quarter-turn mount. It also comes with a tether to ensure your device doesn't travel far in the event of a spill.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2014The 510 is my first Garmin product. Previous to this I'd spent the past 8 or so years riding with a Polar 725 watch / heart rate monitor.
I was looking for a number of things going in to this purchase:
1. Simplicity
2. Heart rate measurement
3. Speed measured based upon GPS, rather than a wheel magnet and sensor
4. Reliable altitude and temperature measurement
5. Reasonable form factor, i.e. smaller than a smart phone
6. Ease of integration on to a variety of different bikes
7. Ease of operation while on the bike
8. Mapping of rides
9. Ability to ride to pre-defined courses
Being that I'd recently purchased some 3T Integra stems (which have the option of an integrated Garmin Edge specific integrated mount), I was predisposed to looking at a Garmin for the first time.
I'm extremely happy with the 510. While researching this device I'd read some reviews where people had problems with altitude accuracy and not being able to read the screen in daylight, which made me a little nervous about what I was really going to get with the device. Neither of these have been problems for me. I live in Southern California, where it's obviously very bright nearly all the time. I find the screen extremely clear and easy to read. Altitude seems to be very accurate.
So far, the 510 has met all of my objectives. I highly recommend it.
**** Having used this device for a week or so, and having read many of the comments from others, I'm adding some comments here on the display. Hopefully these comments help to provide a little more balanced review of what the display is and isn't:
The display on the 510 is clearly a reflective, rather than backlit LED or LCD display that we're all used to on our TVs or smart phones.
What this means is that each pixel on the display is positioned by the display driver to reflect light at a particular wavelength, thus creating the color that enters your eyes. The good news on this type of display is that it's incredibly energy efficient. This is because unlike an normal display that needs to spend energy on every pixel many, many times per second - regardless of whether the pixel needs to display a different color or not, a reflective display only needs to put energy in to a pixel when the color of that pixel needs to change. Once a pixel position is set, no energy is required to be put in to that pixel again, unless the color needs to change again.
The bad news about this type of display is that it is only as bright as the light that it is supplied with.
The net is that the 510 display works great in ambient sunlight. Unlike your smartphone, the display will never be washed out, no matter how bright the sunlight might be. I've ridden in both bright sunlight and cloudy daylight and the display works great. People who are complaining about this display in the outdoors must have not positioned their Garmin in an adequate way on their bike.
Where the display struggles is in interior light. If you plan to use it on a trainer or rollers, expect to turn the "backlight" (really a front light, since the display needs light to reflect back to you) on full time during your workout. Not a problem in that the front light can stay on for hours without killing the battery. Just click the power button and select to not turn the "backlight" off and you'll see the display perfectly fine in interior lighting.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2015The device does what they say it does. It is perfectIy accurate and all of the data points are synchronized, exportable and useful. Garmin Connect (the free Garmin online tool for managing data) is a bit behind Strava in many ways, but it is getting better. The unit also has great battery life and has never left me hanging. I charge it every four rides or so, but it could probably go longer as I ride 20 to 25 miles a day and therefore only use it for about an hour at a time.
My chief complaints are with the usability which falls somewhere between that of a scientific calculator and a g-shock watch. Not intuitive. The bundle I bought comes with an out-front mount, cadence and wheel rotation sensor and a heart rate monitor with chest band along with everything you need to easily and quickly mount it and go, but you can't really do that without getting frustrated. I recommend reading the instructions carefully and testing the unit in the scenarios with which you plan on using it. It took me a while to get all of the functions to work at the same time. On a 50 mile ride I had engaged the (very basic) navigation function, which was working fine, but the unit wasn't smart enough to begin "recording" data even though it was aware of my movement enough to alert me of upcoming turns. It was user error of course, but even at a stop during the ride I couldn't figure it out. I've had a couple of little hang ups like that, but they are all easily avoided by simply spending some time with the instructions.
I'd recommend buying this device if you are willing to learn the intricacies of its operation and you need the functions it offers. DO NOT buy it if you want it for the navigation. The navigation feature is not worth the cost of this over a basic gps enabled model. The differentiator is really the quality of the unit, battery and integration of functions. Also note that Garmin has a slew of new devices including one in this class that are bound to be better and may allow for an easement on the premium price point of this unit, so you may want to wait a little bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Begeistert

5.0 out of 5 stars Fa tutto e lo fa al meglio
Buone pedalate !

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfecto. Todo OK. Buen precio!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Conforme aux attentes
